Jo Hubbert
The Paddocks Nursery
I am currently employed as an Early Years Professional in a
small rural based nursery. My main role is to plan,
co-ordinate and quality assure the delivery of the EYFS. I am also
responsible for display and literacy within the setting. I chose to
undertake the EYPS to gain more experience with the under 3 age
group and to validate my knowledge and experience in the Early
Years sector, which I felt was important as a former Primary School
Teacher who had recently moved into Early Years. I took the short
pathway with EM Direct in 2007. I found 'studying' after at least
14 years both a challenge (writing an essay on the computer was a
totally new experience!) and a pleasure. It was hard work, but the
experience based process did boost my confidence as I realised I
was doing a lot of things on a day to day basis which I had never
thought about. Becoming an EYP has not brought about a
dramatic transformation in my style of working practices, however
it has empowered me to feel confident to share my experience and
ideas with others. I attend the EYP network meetings and find
it useful to talk to other EYP's about everything from assessment
to the best coat to wear to keep warm outside! We choose the
topics for discussion and guest speakers, which is very useful.
