The benefits of being part of a network

There are four groups of people who benefit from an EYP being part of a network:

  • EYPs themselves

The network provides opportunities for members to develop their professional skills through a higher level of Continual Professional Development and shared practice. Courses enable EYPs to gain the skills and knowledge necessary to pass on their thoughts and ideas to others, including their colleagues in the setting. On a personal level the network provides an environment in which questions can be asked, concerns raised and support given. It provides EYPs with a sense of belonging and confidence to use their expertise to their full potential.

  • The setting

The benefits for the setting as a whole can be substantial. Having an EYP to lead Early Years Foundation Stage practice is an invaluable resource and one which should be used to its maximum potential. An EYP part of the Lincolnshire network will receive ideas, training and guidance which can be brought back into the setting for the benefit of all staff and children.

  • The children

From birth to the age of five are crucial years in brain development, research has shown that the development of young children has a direct link to the qualifications of those around them. Having well trained and enthusiastic staff in early years settings is essential and the EYP network is a resource to achieve this.

  • The wider community

Early Years settings are predominantly there to serve children, parents and the community. Staff in settings are in a privileged position to be able to shape the development of the future generation, therefore contributing to the community as a whole. Raising the quality of Early Years providers also gives parents the reassurance to leave their child in a setting they trust and return to work.
