Training Frequently Asked Questions

Who can attend the training listed in the early years training directory?
The Early Years Training Directory is designed specifically for the non-maintained Private, Voluntary and Independent sector of the workforce only.

How many days training a year should I be attending?
It is recommended that every staff member should attend a minimum of 4 days per year (for Registered Childminders that are not in receipt of the Early Years Educational Entitlement then 3 is the recommended amount)

Is Food Hygiene a mandatory course?
Providers should be aware of their responsibilities under food hygiene legislation including registration with the relevant Local Authority Environmental Health Department. In group provision, food hygiene matters should be included in induction and on-the-job training, which is available to all staff involved in the preparation and handling of food.

How often should a first aid course be completed?
Your first aid certificate lasts for three years and you should not allow it to expire! See your EYFS Statutory Framework booklet on page 31. Refer to Ofsted Early Years Leading to Excellence booklet on page 20 & 21

Will the Local Authority cover the cost of my childcare whilst I attend training?
No, unfortunately not.

I am new into the early years workforce, will you fund me to do a relevant qualification?Candidates MUST have been employed in their current position for 6 months minimum, prior to making an application for funding.  It is recognised that you will need this period of time to build up your knowledge base.  During this initial period it is recommended that you attend short courses, from the Online Training Directory, on subjects that you feel that you need to develop.
