In 2003 the Government launched a green paper called the Every
Child Matters agenda. Amongst otherthings the agenda outlined a
reform to the children’s workforce strategy, recognising the need
for highly qualified and skilled individuals working in the Early
Years.
As a result of this the Children’s Workforce Development Council
launched the Early Years Professional Status (EYPS), designed to
bring a graduate level workforce into Early Years and give
practitioners the opportunity to validate their skills and
experience with a higher level qualification.
The government has a central aim for:
- Every PVI setting to have an EYP in place by 2015
- Every Children’s Centre to have an EYP in place by 2010
Lincolnshire is committed to meeting this aim
and fully supports both existing and growing EYPs within the
county.
To meet the assessment criteria for the
qualification candidates must show they can not only meet the
standards through their own practice but that they can lead others
to do the same.
Leadership skills are an essential part of
becoming an EYP, aspirations surrounding the role label EYPs as
‘change agents’, able to drive improvement in the Early Years and
lead the delivery of the Early Years Foundation Stage.

pathways and EYPS providers in Lincolnshire please contact the
