Continual Professional Development

Are you considering your next step on the training and qualification ladder?

Process for applying for either the level 2 Certificate or level 3 Diploma for the Children & Young Peoples Workforce qualifications.

3 simple steps – download the full process for making an application for more detail.

Discuss your training wishes with your Line Manager as it is essential you have their support.

Read through the suggested questions handout as guidance for discussions with the training providers.

Download either the Level 2 or the Level 3 Birth to Five funding application form and make appointments to discuss your requirements with a training provider listed on the preferred training provider contact list.

Once you have decided which training provider you would prefer to study with and you have been offered a place and a start date, they are required to complete the section about your training provider, costs and allocated assessor

Ask your employer to complete their section, photocopy supporting paperwork, sign the declaration and post to Sue Otter at the Birth to Five Service

Your application will be considered and you will be notified within 10 days of the decision. If successful you will receive a sponsorship letter that you should give to both your employer and your chosen training provider.

If the cost of the course exceeds your maximum sponsorship allowance you should discuss the methods available to you to pay the difference.

You’re ready to start your studies so you must be prepared to allocate the necessary time to attend college, meet with your Assessor and complete required paperwork

Making the most of your ‘Training Passport’

  • There are enough ‘passports’ for every member of staff – if you don’t have sufficient for your team then please give the office a call to arrange additional copies being posted to you
  • The ‘passport’ is the property of the member of staff – not the setting!
  • The first page gives you the space to log your qualification journey – your very own pathway to progression, “every qualification you achieve another door will open”
  • When a short course is attended the passport should be taken along to be completed by the delegate & the trainer – the impact on practice is the measureable outcome, how has the course made a difference?  What is the first thing you will return and implement?
  • Continued professional development (CPD) is essential, this booklet will give each staff member an at a glance training log, with outcomes – a really effective method of being a self-reflective practitioner
  • On return to the setting, at the next staff team meeting, course information should be shared with colleagues – handouts, ideas of improvement etc..
  • The Manager will then countersign the ‘passport’ to evidence that information has been understood and cascaded – the course then has benefitted the whole team not just the individual that attended!
  • The aim is that this ‘passport’ will be used consistently with the whole of the early years workforce within the County by April 09 …
