Early Years Consultant (Learning and Development)

There are eleven Early Years Curriculum Advisers (CAs) who support the development of high quality early years provision in Lincolnshire for children from birth to five. Curriculum Advisers provide targeted programmes of support designed to meet identified needs.

The role of the Early Years Curriculum Adviser includes:

  • Supporting the implementation of the Early Years Foundation Stage in Private, Voluntary and Independent Settings and Schools
  • Providing personalised support according to the curriculum and provision needs of a setting
  • Supporting schools and settings causing concern
  • Providing post Ofsted support designed to help schools and settings address key issues
  • Providing curriculum support to new settings to help them provide an appropriate standard of provision to meet the Early Years  Education Entitlement (EYEE)
  • Providing Leadership and Management Support for Settings including support for Early Years Foundation Stage Managers, Head Teachers, Subject Leaders , Governing Bodies and Committees.
  • Supporting workforce development through targetted training, including in-service training (INSET) sessions and delivering modules for CoTs (Contract of Targeted Support).
  • Analysing and moderating data for the Foundation Stage Profile
  • Offering guidance for effective strategies to support transition between settings and between Reception and Key Stage One
  • Supporting and challenging settings to provide effective learning and provision in partnership with the  School Improvement Service
  • Working alongside Early Years Advisory Teachers, Children Centre Teachers and other professionals to develop the quality of provision in settings, as appropriate.

Angela Barley
South Team Adviser

BA (Hons) from the University of Essex in Literature, PGCE (Primary) from BGC in Lincoln and MA in Education (Applied linguistics) from the Open University. KS1/Foundation teacher for seven and a half years (including five mixed age classes). Literacy leader for the past four years in school. Particular interests in mixed age teaching and combining EYFS and National Strategies, also developing the outdoor learning environment.

Sarah BarrattSarah Barratt
Central Team Adviser

English graduate with PGCE specialising in Early Years. Ten years teaching experience in KS1 and FS in Oxfordshire, Birmingham and Lincolnshire.  Senior Management Team member, Foundation Stage Leader and Literacy co-ordinator. Mentored many student teachers and NQTs. Keen interest in working with NQTs, TAs and under 3’s provision. Recently completed Advanced Diploma in Birth to Three Development and Learning.

BA (Hons) with QTS, specialising in Early Years with fourteen years teaching experience in KS1 and FS in Lincolnshire and also Nursery Leader within a school in Manchester. Senior Management Team member and Foundation Stage/KS1 Coordinator. Experience as Numeracy co-ordinator, SENCO, mentor for students and graduates and responsibility for drama, dance and creative arts. Achieved EYPS in September 2008. Interested in the development of the outdoor learning environment and transition from F1/2 and F2/KS1. Currently responsibile for the line management of Children Centre Teachers in the North team.

Janice KenneyJanice Kenney
North Team Adviser

Janice was Reception Unit Coordinator, Nursery Team Leader and Deputy Head within large Lincolnshire Primary schools. Curricular responsibilities were; Early Years, Parents and Community, Family Learning, Literacy and Geography. She has been Children’s Centre Teacher in two areas of The County and Acting Head in a large Infants School whilst completing NPQH. Formally a secondary school governor, teacher governor and playgroup secretary. She combined time as a mum with supply teaching SEN work and a role as local news correspondent.

Vashti HildrethVashti Hildreth
North Team Adviser

Vashti Hildreth joined the team as a Curriculum Adviser in January 2008.  She has experience of working across the primary age range in various London settings within the context of multi-lingual and diverse cultural and social backgrounds.  She brings with her leadership and management experience and has particular interest in Communication Language and Literacy Development and promoting creativity in settings.

Sarah Howe
Central Team Adviser

Sarah Howe joined the team in September 2007.  She has a BA (Ed) and brings with her twenty years of teaching experience. The majority has been in Infant Schools in Lincolnshire, Belgium and Dubai. Her responsibilities have included leading and managing three Infant Schools, Headship duties in two British International Schools and Governor responsibilities. Particular interests include promoting creativity, developing enabling environments and supporting Newly Qualified Teachers in the Early Years.

Lauraine Leroy
South Team Adviser

Lauraine joined the service in Sept 2003 and has worked for 0-5 service for 5 years.
Her role within the service is Moderation Co-ordinator. She qualified with a B.Ed Honours Degree at Derbyshire, specialising in early years and literacy.She has taught for 13 years, in the London Borough of Redbridge, Nottinghamshire, and Lincolnshire. She is a member of AAIA, and EYE and is interested in assessment for learning. Currently responsibile for the line management of Children Centre Teachers in the South team.

Kate Powell
South Team Adviser

Kate joined the team in January 2009. She graduated with a B.Ed (Honours) from Southampton University, specialising in English. Kate taught in Lincolnshire and Buckinghamshire for 6 years in KS1 and FS and was FS and Literacy Co-ordinator. During this time Kate mentored student teachers and enjoyed the role of teacher governor.
Kate has 8 years experience as an Ofsted Early Years Inspector, regulating and inspecting EYFS providers throughout the Midlands. In this role, Kate delivered Ofsted training programmes, managed a team of inspectors, and contributed towards Early Years publications.
Kate’s particular interests include leadership and management and raising quality.

Helen Rutherford

Helen Rutherford
Central Team Adviser

Helen (BEd Hons) joined the service in September 08. Worked in schools, across Lincolnshire from Nursery to KS2. She has worked as a SEN teacher, member of senior management team, run Family Learning Groups, mentored NQTs and TAs and supported Reception teachers in Lincolnshire. Has a Diploma in Playgroup Practice and worked in Playgroups.In her previous school she was Foundation Stage Leader and taught in the Foundation Stage Unit.
Particular interests include Transition and supporting Foundation Stage Units, and observation, assessment and record keeping.

Amy StancerAmy Stancer
North Team Adviser

Foundation Stage Curriculum Adviser for three years. BA (Hons) with QTS, from the University of Durham, specialising in Early Years. She has C.P.S.E. in Early Years and achieved EYPS in 2007. Has experience of working in KS1 and Early Years settings and schools in Lincolnshire, Northumberland and Durham. Has experience of working in mixed age. She has leadership and management experience and has supported teachers in the role of SENCO and NQT mentor. Interested in the development of the learning environment, supporting the learning journey and transitions throughout the early years. Keen to support approaches to heuristic and renewable resource play from birth to five and beyond.

 
 Emma Taylor
South Team Adviser

Emma joined the team in November 2009. She has a B.Ed (Honours) from Bishop Grosseteste College, specialising in 3-7years and Geography. Emma has 7 years teaching experience in Lincolnshire in the Early years, Foundation Stage and Key Stage One, including working in mixed aged classes. She has Leadership and Management experience including Acting Deputy Head, Senior teacher, P.E., Literacy, Foundation Stage and Key Stage One Co-ordinator. She has led a team of teaching assistants, supported NQTs and students in a mentoring role and has had Governor responsibilities. Her interests involve stimulating learning environments, supporting the learning journey and transition and observation, assessment and record keeping.
