A 'Flip-Flap'

Recommended Resource:

A 'Flip-Flap'.
A piece of plastic with pockets to place in pictures of objects/animals etc.

How can this be used? In this time of using the Interactive White Board it is important to remember the importance of real and meaningful resources-this 'Flip-Flap' used to be a popular resource with my children for simple mental maths and calculating. Simply insert pictures into the pockets leaving spaces and fold over the plastic in different ways-revealing different numbers to the children. Use questions such as 'There are 10 altogether-how many can you see? So how many can I see?'. Change the pictures/number of pictures/spaces to continue the children's interests. My children also aways liked to make their own 'Flip-Flap's in the mark- making area using paper with large squares.
Where can I find this resource: These can be made easily and cheaply.Or, use part of an old 'number square' holder to place in the pictures-just cut it to size. As long as it is flexible.
