Guidance for Inspectors

Although the Birth to Five Service endeavours to update the contents within this page, we would strongly recommend that Practitioners regularly visit the official Ofsted website on a regular basis for current information. http://www.ofsted.gov.uk/

Although the aim of the following documents is to primarily support Inspectors with the inspection process, many Practitioners find them useful when considering inspections and conducting self-evaluation.

The aim of this guidance is to assist Inspectors to carry out inspections of providers of childcare on domestic premises who are registered on both the Childcare and The Early Years Registers. This guidance supplements the main inspection guidance for Early Years provision. These are 'Using the Early Years Evaluation Schedule' and 'Conducting the Early Years Inspection.'

This guidance assists Inspectors to carry out inspections of settings that, at the time of inspection, only provide for children in the Early Years Foundation Stage before or after school or in the holidays. This guidance does not apply to before or after school provision or holiday schemes which are the direct responsibility of governing bodies of maintained schools or proprietors of independent schools.
