Outdoor Mark- Making/ Writing Areas

An effective ‘ Outdoor  Mark-Making/ Writing Area’ would include many features. This should be:

  • Stimulating and inviting and encourage children to explore and experiment – a base for learning throughout the environment
  • Made up of quality resources which promote mark-making
  • Well-organised so that children can independently access a  range of materials and media and put these away
  • Clearly labelled with photos and words
  • Set up to include an area for the children to display and share any products
  • Resourced with name cards for those children who are ready to use these
  • Enhanced on a regular basis according to the children’s  interests, possible themes and on-going observations
  • Incorporated into other learning areas wherever possible. For example, role-play and construction.
