Managed Service on behalf of
Outdoor Investigation / Discovery
Opportunities
Effective ‘ Investigation /
Discovery Opportunities’ would include many features. This
should:
- Provide a focus to promote questioning, experimenting,
exploration and investigation. This could be in the form of an
‘Investigation Table.’
- Be initiated in response to children’s interests, questions,
and on-going observations
- House exciting, stimulating and varied resources which the
children can interact with together with practitioners and parents/
carers. This will include man-made and natural objects.
- Include quality fiction and non- fiction texts, pictures
and photographs related to a theme
- Promote the use of the senses with the support of equipment
such as magnifying glasses, mirrors, magnets and digital
cameras
- Include some initial questions that children can attempt to
answer with the support of adults
- Be interactive and encourage questioning
- Facilitate the recording of observations, comments and
questions. This may include the use of ICT, for example the use of
digital cameras
- Involve the outdoor learning environment and include
opportunities to explore the wider world.
