What is the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework?

The Early Years Foundation Stage is a comprehensive framework which sets the standards for early years development, learning and welfare from birth to five years of age. It provides a structure to guide practitioners with providing effective provision in their settings and builds on previous guidance. There is also guidance on children’s development and useful hints on planning and resourcing. This framework combines previous guidance for the Foundation Stage, the non-statutory Birth to Three Matters Framework and the regulatory frameworks in the National Standards for Under 8s Day Care and Childminding.

The Early Years Foundation Stage themes are comprised of four complementary themes. Click on each of the themes here for guidance on how the themes are being put into practice throughout Lincolnshire.

Within each of these themes, the following can be located:

  • EYFS Materials including Committment Cards and In-Depth Sections
  • Guidance and Publications
  • Birth To Five Service Support Materials
  • Frequently Asked Questions
