 'Enabling Environments' is one of the four complementary themes of the Early Years Foundation Stage. It is broken down into four commitments which highlight the importance of observing children in the planning cycle. Effective provision will reflect an understanding of child development and learning.

Principle: The environment plays a key role in supporting and extending children's development and learning.

   
The bedrock of enabling learning is to create an environment that is flexible and varied enough to respect and respond to individual needs.
